Matthew 5:38-48

The season of Lent officially begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1 and here at WHCC we will mark the occasion with our special Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 pm.  I hope you'll all be able to join us.  These six weeks of Lent can be a deeply spiritual time as they afford us an opportunity to walk beside Jesus as he makes his way to Jerusalem.  Though we don't have to face the same level of opposition or make the same kinds of life or death decisions as he, his journey is one that we all have to walk.  On that journey we experience gains and losses.  We know pain and we know peace.  We lose our way and then suddenly find ourselves right where we need to be.

Lent reminds us of that journey and Lent itself is a journey; a journey forward but also a journey inward.  It's a time to examine our hearts, minds and souls to see what lies within.  Are there areas in our lives that we're giving too much attention?  Are there areas in our lives that aren't getting enough?  At the Ash Wednesday service we'll have a chance to think about all of that.  We'll also reflect upon the covenants that we keep and we'll have an opportunity to enter into some new covenants that will fill us, strengthen us and bring us closer to God.

I'm looking forward to walking this Lenten journey with you and I'm hopeful and excited about what we will discover along the way.  I'll see you in church.  Brent
